Why Is Gluten Bad for You?
Gluten is known to be bad for most humans and animals a variety of reasons, starting off with health issues related to the stomach. What is gluten? It is a family of protein that is not properly digested by the digestive systems of many humans and animals.
Explanation of Why Gluten Is Bad
When a person consumes food, the purpose of the large intestine is to break down the food into nutrients. Once the large intestine plays its roll of breaking down food into nutrients, the nutrients travel to the small intestine where tiny receptors are supposed to grab onto the nutrients and pull them into the blood stream.
In the case of proteins, the large intestine should break them down into amino acids, where they are supposed to be absorbed into the blood stream through receptors of the small intestine.
Due to the fact that the large intestine of most humans and animals is not not properly break down gluten into amino acids, gluten enters the small intestine as a non-broken down chunks of protein, rather than broken down pieces of amino acids.
When non-broken down pieces of gluten proteins enter the small intestine, nutrient receptors in the small intestine attempt to absorb the large pieces of non-broken down gluten into the blood stream through tiny holes that are not as large as the protein. As a result of this occurring, gluten damages the inner lining of the small intestine, and also damages the receptors that are attempting to pull them in, due to the fact that the size of the gluten protein is much too large to fit through the holes.
In this case, the more the small intestine and its nutrient receptors become damaged from the oversized gluten protein. As a result of the small intestine becoming damaged, the amount of nutrients that the body is able to absorb now becomes reduced.
If the large intestine was able to properly break down gluten protein into amino acids like it does with other proteins, this would not be the case.
Moral of the Story
Gluten is bad mainly because it damages the inner lining of the small intestine and reduces the amount of nutrients absorbed by the small intestine and its receptors. In addition to this and as a result of this, major illnesses may occur in the body.
